ELECTRICAL SERVICE UPGRADES TO 100 OR 200 AMPERES - Free Estimates - 981 2315
Currently insurances are sending
notices, at random, to existing home owners and to recent home
purchasers to change their 30 or 50 or 60 or even the 70 amperes existing
electrical service to 100 amperes minimum within 1 to 3 months time limit!
Also, fuses or fuse panels are no longer accepted by the insurances. They have
to be replaced. We also get many calls from customers who need service
upgrades who decided on their own without their insurance
interference.
That is exactly the type of work we
mostly do every day of the year - and we keep the
power on most of the time while doing ALL work! Give us a call for a
free estimate on upgrading your electrical
service and a quick free consultation on the condition
of your existing wiring installation.

UPDATE: Nov. 30, 2009 - We may or may not be able to also do repairs and/or rewiring but may only do it at the same time as a service upgrade unless it is a major project. Let us know your plans. Include all work at the same time. Extra work decided when the service upgrade has already started will be done aprox. 3 weeks later if possible and will cost more than if it is already included with the service upgrade package!
The cost of having a
residential electrical service upgraded to 100 amperes depends on many
factors, however, it usually does not cost less than $1,500.00 +
taxes. For 200 amperes it will cost an aprox. $400 to $700 more.
EXACT PRICES may be quite less and are given on site or shortly after
viewing the work.
What does a service
upgrade mean and what is the result of upgrading the
service?
A service change will make it possible to add many
more circuits to the panel. It does nothing at all to improve the fact
that fuses blow or circuit breakers trip on overloads. If
you keep blowing fuses now, after the change over, with a new panel, exactly
the same thing will happen except it will be the new circuit breakers
tripping instead of the fuses blowing. It may even get worst if the fuses
which were there were over sized! In that case you may have circuit
breakers tripping when the fuses never blew before in about 30
years! Why can that happen if - response from some customers: "oh we
never had a fuse blown in 30 years!" " Why should it happen after a new
service and panel is installed?"
Because we will never
install a 20, 25 or 30 amp circuit breaker to replace an over sized fuse.
To
correct such occurrences additional wiring or wiring alterations in key areas of
your home or building may have to be done.
Therefore,
upgrading the service is a good start, but not a magical
solution - it will not solve overload problems, even if it is 1,000
amperes! However, it will stop blowing the MAIN FUSES OR TRIPPING
OF THE MAIN BREAKER.
A service upgrade has to be done first and
in some situations, soon after, there may be a need to run some new cables
(new circuits) and install some new outlets in critical areas such as in the
kitchen and laundry areas and outdoors etc. We will also include a
price for any type of urgent work needed usually at a reduced price.
However, any work decided later on when the service change is underway,
will cost much more due to re-scheduling.
We are set up to do service upgrades smoothly without hardly any interruptions in the normal daily activities of home owners. All power to lights, plugs, furnace etc. will be kept on while ALL the work is being done. We will do the work to fit in your schedule and also work Saturdays.
Upgrading is, in most
cases, to replace all service equipment and install
a complete new service. The meter will be
outdoors, there will be access to more power and circuits to connect
an air conditioning, a dryer, a hot tub, garage, kitchen receptacles,
an addition, rec. room, baseboard electric heat etc. Existing overloaded
circuits, in many cases, will be corrected with a new panel when it
includes some wiring alterations usually near by the panel.
Insurance premiums may be reduced when the service is
upgraded (check with your insurance). However, safety and quality of life are
most important.
