Why hire Action Electric?

Being in the electrical construction field for 39 years (Owner) and for 29 years in business, we still are and have been a small company operating in Winnipeg, at times, with even less than 3 employees. Therefore, it makes it more possible to have a business relationship with our customers defining a "transparent one to one" personal clear level of communication at all times and includes adhering to strict basic, philosophic and moral principals because, most important, electrical work has to do with the safety of the owners or residents and insuring most fare prices for the electrical work. 'My' working vehilcle is not new and shining and ' I " do not wear a suit when I come to give you an estimate and ' I ' am not looking for extreme profits but only for a basic honest everyday job just like you! - (The only exception is I am self employed and it costs me $30,000.00/year to have a job!)

We are fully insured and licensed and do and finish one job at a time and on time. All work (presently) is done entirely by Journey/persons electricians. At this time of the year we may have only one or two journey/persons on site A permit issued by the City of Winnipeg is taken out for EVERY project - big or small. We charge reasonable prices and demand that customers get at least two other quotations for their project. We do not come to see the work 1 1/2 weeks after you call but in in approximately  24 - 48 hrs. When we promise to come at a certain hour - "we are there".

When requested, we apply for your  property tax rebate and for Hydro financing - no extra charges. Often we do small repairs and other minor work at no extra charges and can PROVE IT!

 We work quietly - no major disruptions of workers running all over with muddy boots or being loud or smoking indoors. No workers using drugs (even before employment) are hired to work for Action Electric.  

 We write down, in a contract proposal, every detail of the work we are doing. There are NEVER extra charges according to the work description. You know how much your project  costs before we begin the work, unless it can not be estimated and is set up as "labour + materials". We never request a payment for an item which is NOT YET COMPLETED with the exception of permit & set up charges!

We only do the work once, the handy/person is likely much slower and does the job 5 times worst after doing it at least twice! Usually, such work lasts 2 years provided the home has not yet burned down already! Further, we want to emphasize that if a customer has problems with the wiring done by handymen, we do not offer such repair service. We do work in a professional skilled manner and the work should last well over 100 years!

We do not use ALUMINUM wire cables or feeders which causes arcing problems later on! We use COPPER only. We do not use PLASTIC conduit (PVC) for a service, which warps with the heat of the sun and pulls out of the meter socket or fittings in given time. We use only METAL conduit. When we do a service upgrade, we do not shut down the power for a whole day or longer even when Hydro or the inspector does not show up? We may shut it down only for 1 1/2 to 2 hrs MAXIMUM in most cases.

We don't disappear after completion and getting paid but offer free support and safety instructions long afterwards as per the customer's request, especially if they are doing some rewiring themselves later. We may even offer for free, and in some cases for a small fee, help with a wiring sketch to save hundreds of dollars in materials and it helps the owners to do the work about 4 times faster and save more than 1/2 of the materials cost.!

When possible we remove the old conduit outside and insure that the telephone and cable remain STILL GROUNDED. I have not ever seen such grounding restored back by any other contractor in this city! A very dangerous situation in case of a lightning strike!

If your home still has the old knob & tube wiring throughout, reconnecting back such circuits to the new panel requires a very special skill and also, in rare cases, a very special technique for your old wiring system to function properly and most important to remain safe. Owners call me on 'service calls' to repair such wiring problems even after someone else had done their service upgrade! Customers never realized it was a latent  problem caused by their panel upgrade by other contractors or worst by handy people and even worst by handy friends or even  themselves!

When a service upgrade is completed, the circuits in the panel are well identified. (it can take 2 hours or longer at times to do that properly). Many others usually just write down 'lights and plugs' a 3 minutes job in most cases.

We repair Knob & Tube wiring or fit it in properly with the new wiring in an approved safe manner. Most, when they see it, just say " has to be removed' most of the time they have no clue on how to deal with it and if they do - it becomes a dangerous mess - I have seen it many times!

Sometimes existing conditions warrant a "special service installation design" which saves the customer hundreds of dollars. We can't just say our design is perfect, however, most of the time we eliminate or modify some usuall installation processes which saves the customer hundreds of dollars and accomplishing exactly the same thing. Many others have no emagination at all and can not design something in 2 o3 different ways but know one method!  

In 28 years, there are NO RECORDS of court actions or B.B.B. records anywhere of any issue of customers' complaints about our work!

We work to fit your schedule and also work most Saturdays and most of the time from 9 or 10 AM until  6:00 pm. 

We are the only firm which has extensive internet information and many important  LINKS to  guide you in the right direction in knowing about electrical renovations, upgrades and also in searching for the right people to do your renovation project.

Many times I have spent over 1 hour doing something which should only take 3 to 4 minutes normally and no extra charges!. Most of the time it is due to different manufactures designs or unexpected existing physical problems. It can be installing a receptacle box in an existing wall (it better not move in 100 years!), a grounding bushing on a conduit connector - it will not be misthreaded and loose the ground connection! There are numerous SMALL details of the electrical work (most regarding safety) which has to do with the integrity and knowledge of the worker, the customer would likely never know if it was done incorrectly - This is where the HANDYMAN pulls in the bucks!

There are times when I demand that the customer gets at least 2 other quotes! In the past a few have found this suggestion offensive! Would you?
